He is not ready for that commitment.

It sounds like he is having second thoughts or at least 'cold feet.' His buddies might be giving him the old 'why buy the cow when you can have the milk for free,' talk. You need to be asking HIM this question instead of us. Just sit him down and ASK him if he has changed his mind. If he has then you have to decide if you will continue to date him or not. A marriage is way more than 'just a piece of paper,' both legally and spiritually. That's just a line people use to cop out of a committment in my opinion.

It means that if he can get the milk free why buy the cow. Don't give him an ultimatum just agree with him and also tell him you think that in that case you think you and he should see other people. If he says anything about that just say well I'm not really sure(about getting married) either. If he really wants you he will fight for you. If he doesn't want you enough to fight for you why would you what him. Oh and btw...if you are not at least 25 years old even the thought of marriage is insane.

Men are stupid you have to read between the lines they say whats in there head and sometimes it just doesn't come out right. He asked you to marry him right? then don't worry about it the more you worry the more you'll make him not want to marry you. God if I trivialize everything my Boyfriend said to me I would have been single on the second date. Women are more sensitive than men stop worrying and bask in the glow of you upcoming marriage and love and stop worrying sweetie you guys will be fine.

Sorry, but I'm afraid it does sound like he's bailing on the idea.

He proposed to you though, so you have every right to give him the third degree on the "just a piece of paper" comment.

Don't let him shake it off. If he's changed his mind he owes it to you to be up front, so you can decide if you want to stay with "Anti-commitment Man" or move on to find "Family Man".

After he asked you to marry him, he probably thought about asking you that question and now he wished he never asked you and hopes you forget it.
You can either move on and find another boyfriend or you can just ask him why he would bring it up and then say what he said. If he gives you a half-a,ss response, then you can show him your whole a,ss-you know, what he would see when you get up and walk out of his life.

It means that a wedding may occur, but he does not have a clue what marriage means. Better take some premarital counseling to make sure you're both on the same page.

Ask HIM, not us. You guys should be able to discuss such topics, or you have no business getting married to begin with. Tell him you would like to set a date for the wedding, and proceed from there.

Weird. Maybe you should ask him what that means instead of strangers on Yahoo, he'd certainly answer the question better than any of us would.

Communication is a wonderful thing, try it sometime.

if u are good enough to sleep with, live with, than why aren't u good enough to marry? maybe he is thinking he can get u to forget about it if he tells u it is only a piece of paper.but u need to tell him how important it is to u.

Is it possible that he got what he wanted and now he's not wanting it any longer? There are men out there who love the chase and hate the capture. He's playing games with you. I don't think he's ready for a real commitment with a wonderful woman like you.
