What is the importance?

What is the importance of the river border with Mexico and the Great Lakes border with Canada?
Please help, I tried searching it on yahoo, but what I am looking for is not coming up.

Great Lakes in that area separate the U.S. and Canada. The Rio Grande separates the U.S. (actually State of Texas) and Mexico. They are water bodies that serve as international borders.

If we don't close the border to Mexicans we cant close it to terrorist.
