Hey Now...
1) A luxury hotel in Indonesia has launched a million-rupiah (110-dollar) hamburger, thought to be the world's most expensive, in a bid to marry the tastes of East and West.
Vindex Tengker, the executive chef with the Four Seasons Hotel who created the dish, said 20 of the burgers had sold since going on the menu early this month.
"The idea is not that we are selling the most expensive hamburger. It is our dream to marry the East and the West through food," he told AFP.
The seven-ounce (200-gram) burger is made from finest Japanese Kobe beef with wasabi mayonnaise and Italian portobello mushrooms in a home-made onion-wheat bun.
It is served with Asian pear and French foie gras plus, of course, French fries and is washed down with a glass of wine.
2) The Old Homestead Steak House in Boca Ratan,
(The burger debuted this week at the restaurant in the Boca Raton Resort and Club, where a membership costs $40,000 plus $3,600 a year.)
$100 hamburger combines the most expensive of beef from the U.S., Japan and Argentina. At about 5-1/2 inches across and 2-1/2 inches thick, the mound of meat includes beef from three continents — U.S. prime beef, Japanese Kobe and Argentine cattle.
The bill for one burger, with garnishing that includes organic greens, exotic mushrooms and tomatoes, comes to $124.50 including tax and an 18 percent tip.
3) You can supersize your burger at DB Bistro Moderne, the fashionable restaurant in midtown Manhattan run by celebrity chef Daniel Boulud, but it'll cost you. The sirloin burger layered with truffles stuffed with braised short ribs, foie gras and yet more black truffles is the ultimate whopper -- at least in price. At $59 (or $99 for the double truffle version) it's officially the most expensive commercially available burger in the world. The Guinness Book of World Records certificate is hanging in the window to prove it.
