good lighting. plain background. tight. black white allows room for error and they are easier to tone.
window light is very nice light.
a low f/stop like a 5.6 is also good.

when i was trying to become a model i was good at head shots. make sure your chin is always up never take a picture to make it look like you have no neck also have light on one side or the other never have the light directly on you it makes you look pale. always eat before you take a picture or you will come across pale and your eyes will be dark it sounds funny but it is the truth

Be natural. bring music to listen to and a good photographer that makes you feel relaxed. The more natural the better the pic.
