That would be awesome! so people who cant afford it, can get it still. Its actually the people who really need health care that cant afford it. That would be incredible. I would be so happy for everybody. Medical bills are outrageous. Every tiny little thing costs so much money, and people have to live too! they cant just get sick and pay for the care and hope for the best! no matter who you are, everybody needs some help. Especially in the health care situations. Great Question!

Health care in the UK is not free nor is it "free" in all of the other countries that like to claim that it is because everyone pays for it somewhere along the line usually in the form of, what we consider in the United States, to be outrageous income taxes. Also, in the United States, doctors are paid very well and do an excellent job for the most part because money is definitely a motivating factor to perform better. In other countries doctors generally know what they are going to be earning and it is, comparably, a lot less than what doctors earn in the United States. There is also a reputation that "free" health care takes a lot longer to access simply because everyone has access to it and the quality of care, many times, is sub-standard to that in the United States. It can also take weeks if not months to get a surgery performed that in the United States would be provided immediately. As a personal anecdote, my friend broke his jaw in Canada, and after waiting for hours to go into surgery, had his jaw messed up even more, and then developed an infection called "trench rot" that was last prevalent during World War I. I kind of doubt this would have happened to him in the United States. Our system here in the United States is far from perfect, and can be quite expensive, but in most cases if you need help you will receive it promptly and it will be quality health care. Most people need to think of the consequences of "free" health care before they rip on the United States. Also the War in Iraq has nothing to do with the cost of health care. There is no way that the money earmarked for the war would go in to reducing health care costs. That logic is not only faulty but it is a childish cheap shot made by people who think the war is linked with everything and it is not funny either.

Because then the US would have to raise taxes to cover the cost. There's no such thing as free health care. Those in the UK pay for it too, just in different ways. The good things about the "free" health care in the Uk is that is accessible to everyone. However, the problem is that the NHS(UK healthcare) is constantly having to try to cut down costs because of the way it is funded. Neither system is perfect.

Because it would be less money for the politicians. Medical and pharmaceutical companies contribute millions in campaign donations. You could still be a capitalistic nation and yet have socialized medicine. But when Hillary Clinton tried to come up with a plan while Bill was President, the "good ole boy" club of Republicans shut her down real fast. They are called Conservatives for a reason.

Free? I thought the tax burden in UK and the rest of Europe was close to 2/3's of gross income. That is 66 cents of every dollar that goes to the government in some way or another. I wouldn't call that free.

Socialism doesn't work.

Because we believe the free enterprise system works better.

ALSO, Canada has national health care, and a lot of Canadians come into the stated for treatment so they don't have to deal with the bureaucracy.

Capitalistic democracy. By the way it isn't free in other countries either. Check otu their tax bases, NOTHING IS FREE SOMEONE SOMEWHERE PAYS FOR IT

I wish we could. Tell me, how do you convince the doctors to work for free? How do you get the receptionists and nurses to work for free? How do they get free office space? Free paper for the files?
