This can be a tricky situation because there are so many variables: Width of the lane, width of the space, size of your car, etc. A car with a long wheelbase is always going to be more of a challenge than one with a short wheelbase. some rules of thumb, however, are:
1. Always try to stay to the left side of your lane/aisle, traffic permitting, to turn into a spot on your right.
2. Do not begin to turn in until your right front fender huas visually just cleared the vehicle to the right of the spot you are aiming for.
3. Turn the wheel full lock until you see your LEFT front fender line up just right of the right rear fender of the car to the LEFT of the spot.
4. come out of the turn, but keep that left corner the same distance from the car on the left, checking your right mirror to make sure you clear the car on your right.
5. Once your car is halfway into the space, turn your wheel to the right until your nose comes just right of center and continue to pull in, correcting the wheel to center.

It may seem silly, but find yourself an open, even empty, section of parking lot and practice. It's a lot easier to accidentally hit those white lines than another car...

Try to put yourself 1/3 of the way from the left line marker on the parking spot.

If you are parking between two cars, first make sure there is enough room for you to fit and open your doors. Then, don't look at one car or the other. Line yourself up and look straight ahead. Use your peripheral vision to judge if you are centered. Looking to one side or the other will always skew your position.

Pull in, then back up to where you can see the lines in front of you then pull straight ahead and adjust as you go.

Practice!
Practice makes perfect.
Like riding a bike.

Heck, I still don't know how to parallel park.
I never really had to.

I am good at backing up, because I have done it for so long.
