Are you talking about general 'Inter ner' or a specific webpage on the internet?

Either reason would most likely be a setting in place by the provider for security reasons.

Well you could have a couple of things here. I'm guessing either you have a proxy server that requires authentication or that your ISP requires authentication (generally used by dial-up connections). If you have a proxy server between your computer and the Internet, then likely the person controlling your network would like to limit who can connect to the Internet (maybe some monitoring as well...although that wouldn't require a login but would help to track by user rather than IP address).

HOW TO HACK MODEM!!! - CodeSeeker
========================================

note: this will save passkey, so you dont have to enter it every single time,

find network connections and right click on your dialup connection, click properties, explore this and find save password and username then close out.

WHY DO ISP'S REQUIRE PASSKEYS?

well itz like me, i could tap into your phone line and get free internet by using a brute forcer that manually gueses user names.

"It's for your own good."

In the case of Yahoo!, the longest they will let your sign-in session last is 24 hours. It improves security by making sure that someone couldn't sit down at your computer tomorrow and borrow your Yahoo! account behind your back. (But it doesn't keep your kid brother from sneaking up and sending nasty emails in your name while you're taking a nature break.)
