OK. So GM Garth Snow acquired Richrd Zednik from the Capitals at 4 PM today. Now the rumors are flying around that Blake may get sent off. Some are speculating because he wants a 5 year deal while the Islanders are looking to settle for only a 3 year deal. Should Blake be traded? For whom and what team is he worth trdaing for? This seems like to me that the Islanders are looking to pack it in early even in the middle of their playoff push right now. Who could possibly fill Blake's shoes with Yashin and Bates still injured?

The biggest reason Blake has gotten put on the block is he has become a distraction to the team and has had 2 rather nasty confrontations with garth Snow (the last one was supposed to be a pretty loud confrontation in the hall after a recent game). He is an excellent player and while on the surface it doesnt make sense to deal him if he is becoming a team cancer because of his contract situation then the Isles may be best served to send him away. When things become so contentious between a player and management sometimes the old addition by subtraction works wonders and sparks a team. that may be what the Isles are hoping for and it would not be surprizing to find out later that some of his teammates havent gone to garth and said it is time to do something about the situation. It happens more than us fans will ever know, plus 6 months ago Garth and jason were teammates and who knows if they have had issues with eachother then. With the Zednik deal it looks pretty obvious someone has to go, he may be gone for a package of prospects and/or draft picks.

Blake is having a hell of a year, and I dont see the Islanders giving him up cheap. Apparently 5 five teams in the Western Conference are looking to acquire him. Who knows what players (if at all) could be going the Islanders' way.

sure, honestly. regardless of if Blake is a reliable participant, Drury brings many further intangibles with him. he's a reliable lockerroom guy. i trust that Drury also makes the gamers round him extra appropriate to an stronger quantity than Jason Blake.
