I mean when the Greeks landed on the sands of Troy, it was like how the Allied landed on Normandie... Queer, eh?

The Trojans weren't facing enemy fire when they landed, as the allies did. Also, there was no naval or aerial bombardment before the landings, nor airborne drops behind the lines. Achilles Numidians did face some spears, javelins and missiles. The Greek force did involve thousands of ships, i'll give you that....other than that...it's a stretch.

Its almost like we could say -
Isnt their a striking resemblance between the Trojan invasion and the Norman invasion of England ..... or the Saxon invasion of England or the Micene invasions over the milleniums or.. or... amphibious based assualts....

Its simple logistics. The Allies could have launched another attack through the Middle East - which would've surprised the Nazi's as much if not more so - but the logistics say we cant move THAT many people without someone noticing...

dont mean to be harsh but drawin connections when there are none isnt a very good thing...

Really the only similarity between them is the creative use of deception. At Troy they pretended to give up and retreat, then came back and achieved surprise. At D-Day they led the Germans to believe that the real invasion was going to happen at Pas De Calais.

But other than that they were very different battles. Troy was a protracted seige, with the city being surrounded. D-Day was a frontal assault on a fortified position to establish a beachhead for further invasion.

I don't think it's right to talk about the Greeks and the Trojans. Both sides were Greeks. It was the Achaeans (from the Peloponnese) against the Trojans (from the Greek-speaking west coast of Anatolia).

Other than landing on the beach, I see nothing in particular to compare the two invasions. Perhaps you can explain in another question.

... just out of curiosity.. how else would you land your army on the shores of a country with which you have no land border... I think every landing in history looks pretty much the same!
