Not dumb at all.

Proportional - one thing increases in line with another. For example, mass and volume.

Inversely Pr.. - as one thing increases, the other decreases. A good example of this relationship is Boyle's Law.

If X is directly proportional to Y: As X increases in value, so does Y.
Example: As the amount of water (X) increases in a cup, the weight of the cup (Y) increases as well.

If X is inversely proportional to Z: As X increases Z decreases.
Example: As the amount of water (X) increases in a cup, the amount of air in the cup (Z) decreases.

Hope this helped.

Proportional means that what you do to one side of an equation happens exactly to the other side of the equation. For example:
y=3x. If you double y, then you double the value of 2x.

Inversely proportional means that the inverse (opposite) of what you do to one variable happens to the other. For example: y=3/x. If you double the value of y, then you cut the value of 3/x in half.

Good answer above

Think of it like this:

As you squeeze air down (make the volume smaller) you will increase the pressure.

So volume is inversely proportional to pressure
