When I walked into my house it smelled of rubbing alcohol. What could it be? I feel a little sick now, but I am wondering if it is my imagination - feeling sick, not the smell - what the heck could it be?

Pooky may be on the right track. I have a ventless fireplace insert (no flue). I've noticed that it goes from odorless to strange smells once in a while. I always suspected it had to do with the temperature outside and how it affected my 100 gallon tank if I had the flame set on high. At lower heat settings (less propane evaporation needs) it is usually odorless.

(I'm not counting when the thermostat kicks the burner on and off, as you can get a whiff once in a while with that.)

I have no idea but I am just guessing. do you have propane heat? or possibly natural gas? Propane stinks, and I suppose if you had that kind of heat you would know what it smells like. I don't know what natural gas smells like (yes I know it has no smell, but they put something in it to make it smell). Just a guess.

the smell of propane gas makes me feel really sick, but propane doesn't really smell like rubbing alcohol to me.

Do you have any cats? When the kitty litter box gets full, that smells really strong- although more like amonia I think.
