I met the Smothers Brothers. they were nice but it was funny the one that pretends to be the straight man is actually very nice. He came up to me at the party I was being a wall flower. The other brother was more aloof and did not socialize with the lower people.
I have Met Mell Tillis. He was nice
I met Merle Haggard. he was very sweet.
I have met Shirly Jones and she was very nice and I have also met Jim Stafford. He is funny on stage and off.
I have also met my share of StarTrek actors at the convetions that I have been to
J G Hertzler (DS9) was very willing to talk.
Garret Wang (Voyager) was sweet but kind of quiet
There are a lot of others ( I have been to several convetions.)

I've met Jamie Cullum and Shola Ama. Both were very very sweet. I met the lead singer of Radiohead in Oxford, England, but I didn't recognize him until my roommate pointed it out. He was pretty polite. I saw the guys from Reno 911 going into the CBS building on my way to work in Manhattan, but only from a distance.
My friend asked to buy a ciggie from Paul Rudd and met Taye Diggs on the subway and Bridget Moynahan at a bar. My other friend tiled Rachel Weisz's bathroom and lives in the same building as Ira Glass.

Celebrities are people. Some of them are nice people (at least until annoyed) and some of them are not, just like everybody else. Generally their celebrity status confers certain benefits on them, such as top-level service and personal assistants, but it is also a significant burden, requiring bodyguards and sneaking out back doors and having to talk to effusive, often unpleasant strangers when they go out in public.

So it's all a wash. Everybody is different, and celebrities shouldn't be considered as a lump sum stereotype.

Having said all that, I've met many a celebrity in my day. By far the funniest encounter was with the woman who played Batgirl in the 60s television show Batman. Admittedly, calling her a celebrity is a significant stretch, but at this particular event she was being treated like one.

She walked up to me, took hold of my silk tie (this was the early 90s) and said, "oh, this is a lovely tie. Who made it for you?" as if people in the midwest all walked around with custom-made ties. I took great pleasure in saying "I bought it at Sears" and watching the confusion on her face, as if I'd said "I pulled it out of my butt."

Nine out of ten times, however, celebrities are just people, and like nine out of ten non-celebrities, they'll treat you just fine if you meet them in a polite setting.

I interviewed Johnny Mathis once and he was nice but in a hurry. Then I met and chatted with Jeff Bridges and his wife and he was very gracious when I asked if I could take a photo and he had my friend take another photo "to make sure we got a good one." Then we chatted because we were both waiting together and he seemed so normal and friendly.

Joe Perry....@ the HardRock Cafe.
He didn't seem very delighted to be there, but was friendly-ish.

I personally dislike Aerosmith due to my mother's HUUUUUUUGE obsession, so I wasn't too thrilled either.
