you don't need to go to college. But Acting classes and training are pretty much a must, unless of course your aim as an actor isn't good acting.

No, you don't have to go to college to be an actor. I didn't, and I worked in the theatre for 20 years, until I got married. Then I went to college.
I understand why your mother thinks college would help, and she may be right. One of the things I missed, and had to learn the hard way, was technique. Raw talent will take you only so far; if you have training and technique, you'll be ahead of the folks who are relying solely on instinct.
There's no reason why you can't check out some agencies -- it's good experience, and will give you an idea of what the work is like.
Bottom line is, it never hurts to get an education, but it's not absolutely essential if acting is your chosen profession. I wish you success!

Do you technically "need" it? No. But it sure as heck helps. You will get tons more experience and you will improve alot. Plus with the whole "not what you know but who" thing, your professors can be great references and connections. At the very least look into it and audition for a few schools, even if you don't end up going that route. But I would personally say that college is much better than trying to do it on your own and without the experience your time in college will bring. If you pursue a degree it will show that you are serious and committed to becoming the best that you can be.

I know exactly what you mean! I graduated last year from high school and am enrolled in a theatre arts program. It's not like school is a prerequisite to be a successful film actor but it will definitely help. Of course there has been so many successful actors who didn't go to school like Johnny Depp.
Talent is important but it's not everything, colleges will help prepare you for the acting world! They will strengthen your acting skills, give you experience, give you connections (as actors we know its unfortunately who you know not what you know), and also help you prepare for the audition process which can be very grueling.
I suggest getting a background agent as oppose to a principal agent. That way you can get some experience and make some connections.

you dont have to go to college for anything, but if you do your sure for more sucess. If you go to the best acting school in the world and go to an interview, they will think wow he went to so and so. IF you had no experience even, the might be willing to giveyo ua shot. But if you have no experience and no education., they will never give you a chance. IT all about presentatoin and experience, the more and the better, the better chance you get the job

You don't need to go to college but it would be a help.
There are acting schools outside of college.
Check around your area.
Get the education before you look for an agent.

Nope, it can broaden your knowledge base. Never down-play the value of education.
