Marijuana should be legalized period (although the medical angle serves as a good "wedge"). The harmful effects of it have been exaggerated or fabricated from the very beginning. It was a religious crusade that prevented its legalization, just like with the temperence movement that led to Prohibition. The only reason it isn't legalized now is because the intertia just isn't there.
I don't smoke the stuff (and don't care to be around those who do). You can't overdose on it as you can with so many prescription drugs. It yields no physical dependence like cigarettes. It doesn't impair you anywhere close to as bad as alcohol does.
Like I said, I don't smoke it. So why should I care one way or the other? Do you have any idea how much money we have wasted on marijuana offenders in this "War on Drugs"? Do you know how much prison space is occupied by pot offenders while violent criminals walk free? Do you know how much money we (rather than organized criminals) could make taxing this stuff?
I know people who smoke and have been smoking for years. They are able to to use it without endangering me. I can't say the same for those who do coke, crack, heroin, meth, etc. That's where the DEA and local police should be concentrating their precious resources, not on the harmless pothead.

Yes, marijuana should be legalized for a number of reasons including home remedy. I know of people who have extremely painful illnesses that cause constant nausea, headaches and overall pain. Marijuana would help ease their pain, steady their nausea so they could actually eat and relax their body so they can sleep. And we all know that sleep is when the body heals itself.
I also believe that it should be legalized for recreational uses as well, but that is just me.

well considering in the 1920 that smoking marijuana was legal and drinking illegal and that was the drug of choice back then .. and a few people in FDA got together and made it illegal.. yeah the should make it legal.. but they wont.. mainly because they ( the government) don't know how to tax it..

Only if it means emptying the jails. It's a crime how society puts marijuana users in jail. Personally I wouldn't put smoke in my lungs. Somehow that doesn't sound like a good idea.
