Man, where do you ignorant knuckleheads come from? I hope you're just dumb kids. The gold in Fort Knox is not money; it's big heavy bars of metal. And there is no one worth a trillion dollars, considering that it's well known the richest person on Earth is Bill Gates, worth $50 billion.

To your questions, depends on exactly how you define money. One good measure is called M2, and according to the Federal Reserve, by this measure there is $7.064 trillion existing today.

Or by M1, a narrower measure that is basically cash available (mainly currency + checking accounts + cash savings accounts), it's $1.368 billion

Google M1, M2, and M3 to learn more about money supply!

I personally know a guy that is worth over 1 trillion dollars. Granted, not all of his money is in the US but you've gotta think, if he's worth 1000 billion dollars, there's a LOT of money out there. I know the Saudi's have over 4 trillion in assets in the US. I would speculate to say that the total amount of "money" in the US is around 100 trillion dollars by way of both paper and assets, not including real estate.
