I had the same fault on my connection, called BT and they went through a few things but not really any better at the end of it. In the end i found out it was because i was using a wireless connection. To solve this i had to have the router in the same room as my PC. Or it could be the card etc on your PC. Try these but you will get a better connection having it wired with an Ethernet cable directly to the router if you can. One last thing (i promise) it also depends on how far you are away from your exchange. BT Will able to answer that one. Hope this helps

I,m with BTBB to and I've not yet found anyone who has got 8mg yet! I am just changing to Talktalk - I've heard its good and its costing me half the price of BT with free calls, line rental and Broadband. I hope it'll be worth the change! Tonight my BTBB was so slow it was like being on dial up again - having said that, I must say that I've generally found their service pretty good ove r the last couple of years. Their technical support is excellent.

me too! its because bt is shite. they say you could have upto 8mg broadband. maybe if you lived on top of the telephone exchange it would be. I can see my telephone exchange right now from my bedroom window (apparantly its the closer you are, the higher the speed you get) I get around 3 mg which they say is acceptable. When they tested my line they said I should receive 6mg. Unbelievable considering the exchange is less than 100 metres away.

things that could slow it down ,extension leads if using get an ethernet extension lead from bt phone socket or get a proper extension bt socket, going to internet tools and deleting cookies ,history and temp files, having no filters in all phone sockets in house (the white box that clicks into sockets.)make sure every phone socket has one.
also depends where you are to your nearest Bt exchange distance is alway around 4.8 miles furthest away loses most speed ,8mb means up to not get 8mb its always in the small print.
do a search on bt exchanges to see how far u are from one .
oh other thing if you are using extension lead put your pc into the master bt socket always one at front door and see difference in speed

It depends on the area you live in and your exchange capability
mine is supposed to be 6mb If you are with BT you should have BT desktop help and router manager available
Router manager will tell you what your speeds are

8Mb is the maximum speed - but it is unlikely that will ever be achieved.
There is the latency in the line and servers to take into account and that can significantly reduce the effective speed.
It may be better at times but may only be as good as you are seeing.

depends how far from the exchange so they say i live half a mile get 5/6 mg up/down . think they should refund the difference as your not getting what they say . ( they prob got a get out clause )

Check out dslreports.com and go to tools, and speed test. If they say you have 8 mbps down then when you download, your max speed will be close to 1000 kbps or 1mb.
