I don't pose this question to offend anyone, but I in no way understand a person's thinking in this regard, and I honestly want to know the reason people feel this way.

Some people are told one thing and can never even begin to accept that it might not be true.
This 34% is probably all of the small-town white supremacist hicks who also hate the "colored people" and think gays are evil.
Now, if we could make it so only people with an IQ of at least 80 could vote...

Seriously, I think that the answer is that the majority of that 34% equate "a woman running" with "the woman running" which would be Hillary Clinton. If a talented Republican woman were also running, the response rate would likely have been much lower than 34%. There may always be a few people who oppose any woman running, but this year it is a difficult question.

I would say that is because that is the percentage of men involved in the survey. I don't follow or believe in any polls because they can be so easily skewed.
I wouldn't want any president, man or woman, who doesn't have the education and knowledge necessary to do a good job. They also need to have the courage of their own convictions to make decisions that may not be popular among the populace.
Our government at the highest eschalons is not a transparent entity and should not be. I firmly believe that the general public does not have the education needed to make internationally reaching decisions, nor should they be given the information needed by the president and his cabinet. Basically, to coin a line from film, "You want the truth, you can't handle the truth."

I have no basis for this conclusion other than my opinion of other peoples reactions over the years. I believe many believe that a woman usually acts from a level of emotion that is not the same as a man. Woman may be seen as being a little more emotionally charged than a man and that that emotion may lead to decisions that are not well reasoned. Not saying they couldn't be but the consensus seems to feel that way. (Funniest answer to this question I've heard, although politically incorrect, is that every 28 days we would have a war someplace. You know, kind of like now.)

I'm a woman, and while I think it would be interesting to have a woman president, I think it would really hurt the US.
Not because a woman is not able to be president (of course, it depends on the woman), but because many countries that we deal with are patriarchal societies in which women aren't considered being worth as much as a man. Those countries would most likely not want to deal with a female US president.

Polls are suspect, and I never trust them. Unless they support my agenda, then I trumpet them loudly!
As far as women, I'd love to see a Queen Elizabeth the First elected as US President. I prefer leaders of such genius, and I don't care about the gender. There isn't one available.
But I will vote for Vanna White to be First Lady for Life. Anyday.

I am all for Elizabeth "Libby" Dole running for President. I am against any left wing ignorant bafoon running for President, man or woman. Currently the only two women with Presidential aspirations seem to fit that description.

Many people see women as too soft. Sometimes you've gotta be tough and make tough decisions. In most families, who spanks the kids usually, Mom or Dad? For a woman to be elected she'd have to overcome that image.

Europeans and Asians, on the different hand, advance up in a subculture that takes an extremely distinctive view of the dating of the guy to the state or monarch. consequently, comparisons between america and any u . s . a . in Europe or Asia are unavoidably invalid.

Old school thought, some will even say we would be at war every 28 days, it is going to be hard to crack the good ol' boy philosophy but we will have that chance in the summer of 08. Hopefully there will be enough progressive thinking people that will out number the stone age thinking people that think that woman are inferior.
