I've always heard the same thing when it comes to recycling, not using up too much water, not littering, but I want to know what else children CAN do. I've heard about volunteering...

See about volunteering at a zoo or at a wildlife refuge or rehabilitation center. You could also see what you could do to help. Even if it means volunteering to clean or making donations (i.e. towels, food, etc.).

Hope the websites help.

By being creative, and having fun while sending out a message all in the same time. For example, make signs supporting the protection with wildlife, going to your local wildlife expert talking about other protection you may be able to offer, so basically as long as a kid isnt getting stressed and fustrated, and they are having fun and at the same time giving out a message about supporting wildlife protection, then thats a great way.

I am a firm believer that too many children don't know wildlife. We cannot teach them to care about something that has no impact in their lives. I think the best way to get children to care about and try to preserve wildlife is to get them out in it. We routinely take our children camping, fishing (catch and release...we also cut the barbs off the hooks, so as not to injure the fish we are releasing), I make scavenger lists for them and go on nature hunts (ie: find a spiderweb, touch a fern, etc) which they get to check off things as we go along. Involvement is the best medicine for our environment.

As a family you can avoid using pesticide and chemical fertilizer on your lawn. Kids can plant native flowers and grasses that are beneficial to wildlife. Planting native shrubs and trees provides cover and food for lots of birds, insects and mammals. Good luck!
