I know this is easy for me to say but just relax. The fact that you're trying out is fantastic. As far as events go, your coaches will know which events you show some ability in. Don't forget about the field events like jumping or the javelin. You'll never know where you might have some untapped talent. Stay open for anything and practice hard. Good luck and I hope you have a wonderful season!

I didn't really have to try out for track. They weren't gonna cut anyone. But be sure that you know which race you want to be running. It can determine your training. 800m is the shortest long distance race. The 400m is the longest sprint race. That's the line between sprinters and distance people. Sprinters require a lot of power. Sprinters are normally more muscular. If you're more about endurance then do distance. Keep in mind that you'll be running with cross-country runners though. Whether you run 800 or 2400 you train with each other. Make sure you're ready. Don't worry too much though because as the season progresses your coaches will be monitoring your progress and eventually they'll let you know which race is good for you.

Drink a lot of alcohol right before you try out. Your drunken demeanor will be sure to turn the coach on.
