Why is it that members of the government don't have to count on Social Security for their retirement??????

Very simple. They realize that Social Security was not meant to be a sole source of retirement income. It was developed to be a supplement. YOU are responsible for making sure you retire well or not. Government employees have a retirement plan and pension just like millions of other employed people in this country. My father contributed to his companies 401K plan for almost 30 years and has had a nice retirement. He also gets Social Security and uses that as his little something extra. I can't stand people that think the Government is supposed to take care of them. The Government makes it possible to live free and pursue the life you want. It is up to you to take advantage of opportunities out there. If your not employed...get a job....if your job has no benefits..look for one that does..if your self employed look at benefits for the self employed...Roth Ira's...Simple Plans..Variable Annuities.ext..so many... The only excuse is stupidity...ignorance is not an excuse , neither is laziness. I sacrifice a little of my spendable income on my retirement plan just so I can have a nice retirement. My Social Security (if there is any left) will go to spoiling my grand kids. Carpe Diem....

Well the obvious answer is that they have a congressional pension plan that pays them their salary until they die and then pays their surviving spouse...

But really I think that the Gov't has to know that the Social Insecurity program is busted and know tha tthe government is horrible at handling money. SS is a joke and should nto be counted on after the baby boomers wipe it out. I definitly don't count on that sorry excuse for pension when I retire. Its another liberal idea that the gov't should provide welfare...craddle to grave...I'd do better to be able to invest my SS money and actually make a return

Those hired after about 1984 do receive Social Security, and they pay into the system. Also, their Federal retirement benefits are substantially lower than those hired before 1984, who do not receive Social Security or pay into the system.

i think of this is a stable concept, if this is utilized with confidentiality and for extra suited counseled governance in our u . s . a .. Already we've the PAN card, the utilising licence crd, the voter id card, the corporate identity card, the ration card etc., even though it is going to be functional to have the Social secure practices form because of the fact the link form. that's often performed in the path of the voter identity introduction technique.

Ditto Randy. This is the problem with America. Nobody wants to take care of themselves. The government supplies a pension just like a (decreasing) number of large corporations do. Participating in the pension or saving for yourself is your responsibility...not mine or any other taxpayer.
