I needed to send my resume in for a position. The recruiter could not open my attachment and requested I send her my resume as a word doc. How would I go about doing that? Thank you

It's just a guess on my part, but you aren't looking for a job in Computers. IF you used Microsoft Works, then use SAVE AS, and pick Microsoft Word as the file type. Name the file..... MyName.doc also, so your resume does not get mixed up with someone else's.

Next time, tell us what program that you thought that you were using. Otherwise, you might need a computer GEEK for a friend.

Good luck and Happy Computing!

If you know how to attach a file using your email software / web account, the I assume you attach the file correctly. Given that assumption, the only other reason your recruiter can't read your resume is that you didn't save your resume in Word format (.doc) or Adobe's PDF format (.pdf). If you don't have Microsoft Word, you can cut and paste your resume into Word Pad (which you can find under the Accessories menu of your PC.), and then save it as .RTF file which can be read by your recruiter's Word program. Good luck with your job hunting !!!

I'm guessing you're using Windows and (perhaps) Microsoft Works Word Processor, or some similar recent MS word processing app. These tend to export files as .wps - your recruiter wants a .doc file

Open your resume file, and save it again - but this time, drop down the menu of file types in the "Save" dialog - and look for .doc - choose that file type, and save your resume. Send it off to your recruiter - job done.

If you're using Linux, both Abiword and Open Office can easily produce a .doc file when saving a document - the procedure is very similar.

A word document refers to using Microsoft Word software, which has the file extension of ".doc". They are suggesting you put your resume into Microsoft Word, then emailing them the attachment of that file "MyResume.doc".

Have a great day!

Try downloading Primo PDF from:
http://www.primopdf.com/
Then once installed, open your resume, click File/Print and select PrimoPDF as the printer. Hit Print, then email the file as a pdf. PDF is a universal Portable Document Format that can be read by pretty much everyone.

Depends on the word processor your using, most will save in MS word format (doc) if you click File and Save as then change the file type to doc.

A word doc just means it was composed in "microsoft word". What software did you use to compose your resume?

Thats a shame - people shouldn't request proprietary data formats. Its like asking people to drive to work, but only use a Ford car.

Use Open Office - its available for Mac OS X, Linux and even Windows.
