lo! omg! your band name is splushee?! yeah, you definently need to tell them to change it! if you have a stupid band name, its less attractive for people to like you, just tell them that you dont think that people will take you seriously with a name like that.
WHO WAS THE PERSON WHO MADE UP THE NAME ANYWAYS?! LOL! GOOD LUCK! =]
p.s what instrument do u play?

Have you tried looking up the name and seeing if some band somewhere in the world already has the name? If there is a band out there somewhere that is signed on any type of label and already is named that, then there you go. Tell the rest of your band that, and that it has to be changed otherwise if you play shows or get any kind of known, you run the risk of being sued. Even if there isn't anyone else with that name, you could just say there is when you were looking around online. That's what i did when the members of a former band I used to be in wanted to call it "pipshit". I obviously hated it. Then I had to tell the same lie when they wanted to change the name to "Blaxican Shlang". Obviously, the band didn't last long. Hope that helps.

I would just tell them that you really don't like the current name for the band. Maybe just in passing ask them if they could change the name of the band, what would they choose. Or have a few of your friends come up to the other band members and tell them, great band, but the name stinks. Just get it out there some way that you are not really happy with it. I guess what you really have to ask yourself is, do you like being in the band more than the name you hate. It's a tough one. Good luck with it and I would love to hear what happens.

How about calling it "Lithium Shattered Splushee"
After all - it's just a name. If your band rocks no one will care what the name is. If your band sucks - who cares what the name is.

The majority rules. If you have already told them it sucks, and they're not buying it, tough. Suck it up. If your band is any good, the name doesn't matter anyway.
Also: you're not trying to get them to give up the bad name, you're trying to get them to give up the bad name AND pick one of YOURS. Whether you mean to or not, you're making a power move to rule the band, or at least that's how they're seeing it.
Besides, being in a band means compromising. What if you're playing one of your new songs, and you hate one of the chords -- but the rest of the band likes it? Are you going to ***** and moan and complain, and demand that they all play the chord they hate so that you don't have to? F that. You don't like it, leave the band. That's what "creative differences" are.
So STFU and play. If you don't like the name, have two bands; this one with these guys, and another one that you get to lead, and you get to name. But seriously, it's your music that matters. That's why there's a famous band called The Band.

Well if they don't want to listen to potential fans, then either A) the band is doomed and they're never gonna listen to you anyway; or B) It's a great name, and they are the only ones cool enough to know it. If it's A, which I believe it to be... then you may wanna just tell them and risk the reprecussions, or just grin and bear it. If it's B, which I highly doubt... then don't count on being famous til everyone in the band is dead (not being appreciated in your own time is rather prestigious).
ANd if you decide to go all out and tell them how you feel... Please pass this on for me: "Splushee" sounds like the noise my vomit made when it hit the ground not long after I found out your band name was "Splushee"!!!

If you want to be in a real rock band, then you have to disagree with someone, and having creative differences is really good. At least thats what reality TV has told me! You can always create real drama by threatening to quit "Spushee." By the way for your own peace of mind.........I don't like that name either, but lithium sounds to copycat Nirvana to me.

You have to address the members in a way that won't insult them as if it's really stupid to like the name. (Even though it is to you) You could probably say something like, "Our band name is getting old. Don't you think we could come up with something...
-more creative?
-kinda catchy?
-better?
They won't feel offended. They may not change their minds, some of them anyway. If you think it's not going to have an effect, try making up new, funky and creative names first. Show them to the members, maybe they'll end up liking one of those better.

Try suggesting having a contest...also provides the public with more awareness as to the band when becoming involved.....the prize could be a night out with the band during one of your performances...just a suggestion
