It would depend on what your felony was for. Further, was it the only felony you had? After so many years, if it was the only one, you may be able to have your record expunged and cleared. You should contact your local Bar Association for assistance.

I'd start with an Associates Degree at a community college. You can get a lot of the General Education (GE) requirements out of the way for your Bachelor's Degree. It's cheaper, and judging by your spelling and grammar, a good starting point.

When you are completing the GE requirements, you may find something that interests you in regards to a career.

In regards to felony blocking you from entry to certain careers.

It depends on what the felony was, and what field you are trying to get into. Anything with medical licensing or law enforcement is most likely out. But, everything else is pretty open. You mentioned that you couldn't be in managment, but that is incorrect. You will not get hired directly into a manager's position, but you can work your way up. Nobody is perfect, as long as you are honest about your record, and estabilsh a good employment history, you can work your way up. The majority of job applications out there don't ask if you've been convicted of a felony.

The best idea is to start your own company. Then it won't matter.

I have included a link to a web page that directly addresses your situation.

Good luck.

Those with felony convictions can become members of just about any profession, given enough time. If it's a violent felony, I think nursing would be tough in the short-run. If it's stealing or something, law or the like is going to be bad. I would do some volunteer work or something like that to show rehabilitation and that you are a good citizen who just made a mistake. But like the last poster said, the expungement is definitely something you want to look into. Legally it's as if it never happened once it's expunged. You'll want to look into getting not only the crime, but the arrest record expunged. I'm not a lawyer, but I know someone who has expunged a violent misdemeanor.

If this felony was committed when you were a minor, then when you apply for jobs after you turn 18 they cannot see this.

I personally heard that with nursing they will do a background check when you are about to write your board exams..
