I have 2002 Chev Tracker and am having a hard time finding shocks, other than Monroes or Wal-Mart quality. I use my Tracker for Off-roading so I would like to get a brand that can handle it, Pro Comp, Rancho, BDS, etc.. Unfortunatly I can't find any that are vihichle specific, so I'll need to take a measurement to find a shock that'll fit.
What info. will I need and how do I get it?
Thank You!

You won't be able to measure it on the vehicle unless you jack up the rear end, because it will be compressed by the weight of the car.

You may want to look at pnenatically adjustable shocks that will allow you to inflate them for off-roading. Find your total vehicle weight and double check the mountings to make sure that they will be compatible with your Tracker.

Get a set of specs for the Monroe's or Wal Mart's and start from there.

Measure the length between connection points, and, if you still have shocks on the vehicle, the travel length. This is done by putting a zip-tie to the shock rod at the point where it enters the shock body. Then drive the vehicle over typical road surface that you intend to drive on, then measure how far the zip-tie has moved, or displaced, from the body. If you are putting any aftermarket springs on the vehicle, you will need to know the spring rate.

take off a shock and take it to the parts counter you will find that alot of parts stores will go out of their way to help out. I do the same thing but I lower my vehicles and with a completely different rear end sometimes you just need to try you hit or miss luck
