"Chemistry" isn't everything... There may be a lot of chemistry, but very little compatibility. If he says he just wants to be "friends" - means he's not interested in continuing the romantic relationship (i.e., it's a "nice" way of dumping her). Perhaps, she was great as an intense short-term fling, but he knows she's not gonna cut it as a long-term partner; or, he feels they are getting too involved, and he doesn't want it to cross over into committment. Either way you look at it - he is NOT interested.

Unfortunately this happens. Just friends could mean more than one thing. Sorry, but it sounds l ike one persons idea of phenomenal chemistry may be one-sided. You feel passion and love, like you could just melt in his arms. He might not feel this chemistry in such the same way. If you feel that way , you may not want to be just friends. You may be better in the long run by letting him aware of your feelings and tell him you want more than a friend because your emotions will get in the way. Seeing someone you love may be too painful emotionally, especially if he is with someone else. If you are able to let go of the feelings that only you have and can be friends than I wish only the best for you. IN this situation perhaps you should decide what is best for you and take it from there. Take care.

If the man wouldn't of said that then I would of said the reason would be that timing is everything and that is why they aren't together. There could be 2 people that have phenomenal chemistry when they meet but if at the time one of them is already in a relationship then they won't be together unless they have no morals and cheating takes place.

It means what he said, why is that so hard to figure out? You may think you have phenomenal chemistry, but clearly he has a different idea about that. Move on, he doesn't want you romantically.

chemistry is lust....lust alone does not a relationship make....he might want to touch your body and kiss you all over but he doesn't see the in and out of everyday life with you and certainly not the long haul
cut him loose and get yourself some substance---lust is not love

He doesn't feel the chemistry that you do. It's one-sided.
