My doctor told me after five days I would be able to go back to work. I am now in my second week and have no ideal when I will go back. He said each person is different. First, I ride the subway to work and walk four blocks each way. I have what I call snow boots to walk in. My daughters said I couldn't go to work because I have to drive to the subway and of course insurance won't pay. I have been in pain since the surgery. I went in today to see how I was doing and I told him my foot was hot and still hurt. He took some blood from my arm and from my foot and gave me stronger pain medicine and levaquin 500 mg. I go back Thursday to see how I am doing. Also I am to keep my foot raised and heat on it and move as liitle as possible. I want to know if this is normal and or what should I be doing?

Heat and swelling indicate infection, levaquin is an antibiotic so you are getting the right treatment. Do as the doctor says and rest. There is not much else you can do, unless you want to try the old fashioned method of putting honey on the wounds. It helps heal and fight infection.

Usually hot to the touch, swelling and pain means an infection. Is the Levaquin an antibiotic? Do not put heat on it...you should have ice on it. I had foot surgery too and I kept cold packs on my feet for about a week. Cold helps with swelling. Keeping it raised it good though.

You should be doing just what he told you to do and NO, you should not go back to work until the infection in your toe clears up. You are on a good antibiotic so hopefully within 24-72 hrs you should see a difference. It's not normal to have an infection but it does happen sometimes. If you don't see any inprovment within the time I've told you, then call your Dr. back and if you don't get any satisfaction, then go to the ER. If you see a red streak going up your foot/leg then you need to call your Dr. but the antibiotic he's given you should do the trick.

No, this is not normal. Sounds like the foot's infected. Make sure you take your levaquin. Take all the medicine until it's gone. Even it you feel better and your foot improve. Make sure you follow your doc's instructions.
