Poker is very popular right now and there has never been so much interest in it. It is a lot more fun to play but i don't mind watching the game if i have friends playing at the time.

Poker basically became a spectator sport during the hockey lockout. Sports channels had no hockey to show, so they had to fill the timeslots. Poker ended up being one "filler" then exploded into what we see and also play now.

after chris moneymaker won the 2003 world series the popularity of the game exploded, and this is one of the side effects, the increase in spectators and more importantly rowdy fans cheering loudly whenever the guy they're rooting for wins a pot...on a side note, it's ironic that moneymaker has become a laughingstock in the poker world

Poker has really grown in popularity the last few years. There is always multiple games to watch on TV everyday. Its fun to watch your friends too. Even celebrities are involved now with "Celebrity poker" tournaments.
