it seems like you're putting faith in that person instead of the that person's ideology. Your faith deserves to belong to something perfect or else its contradictory to follow something imperfect.

when you say blind faith, does it mean you have tried to understand the pros and cons of the belief and still concure with it or you never even tried to answer issues that the belief/faith might be pointing at? if the later is true then you are misguided and truely following blindly which will make you someone who's not really true to himself and without identity. and that means it's not safe, not at all. you must be able to say why you believe in something or why you dont. that way, you will not be tossed to and fro by every wimp of other people. It will help you understand who you are, define your values and paradigms and give a lot of definition to your life.but if the former is true then you really are not following blindly but going with your heart as well.

To follow a great philosopher because you agree with what he's saying is good, if you also trust in your own judgement too. For you to value anothers beliefs, you have to have some good judgement of your own. Do make sure that this person lives by what they preach, only follow what your own heart tells you. Remember that some of the greatest philosophers like Aristotle, who learned a huge amount from Plato, still had his own ideas and founded the Lyceum and to this day is remembered as one of the most brilliant even though he was born in 384-322 B.C.

Normal, yes. Safe, no.
Blind faith in the prevailing ideology has led to all sorts of atrocities - the holocaust and the Vietnam war to name but two.
We need to constantly question our beliefs and our actions to make sure they are not leading us astray. As soon as a belief fails to withstand this scrutiny we should discard it.

It does happen in many aspects of our society. It is safe as long as you don't follow the leader over a cliff.
