i agree, i think perhaps there is often a struggle between need and want.people often want what is bad, but need what is good,
if the need people know getting need has good consequences.
but want can disagree with need and have bad consequences.
like drugs and stuff, the need to abstain and be healthy, is weaker than the want of the damaging sustance.

Here's a good quote for you:

"Right is right, even if everyone is against it; and wrong is wrong, even if everyone is for it”
---- William Penn

It comes down to principle. If you carefully consider (analyze and study) a principle, and you decide that it is the right way, then you should follow it, even if few do follow it.

Another quote summarizes it this way:

“In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock.”
---- Thomas Jefferson

As far as opinion is concerned, everyone is entitled to one. However, not all opinions are equally formed (not formed with equal study, equal consideration, equal analysis). The bum in the park has an opinion. So does the professor at a university. Are their opinions equally formed?

I totally agree, especially being on this forum. When you give an intelligent response to a question, you get a "thumbs down" a lot of times just because the asker/responder doesn't agree with your answer. I feel like a lot of times, people ask questions for validation; they might already have a response in mind, but they compare their to other people's answers.

An opinion is an expression of personal feelings and stance. It is worthy of respect if the individual concerned has considered all relevant facts and reached a balanced conclusion. Strongly expressed opinions which have not been reached in this way are not worth much.

Not really. Right and wrong are just a question of perspective. What one person thinks is the best thing to do another person may think is the worst thing to do.

Its not as simple as youre trying to make it.

(And your wording is less than perfect. Theres no such thing as a right opinion. Opinions cant be right or wrong, by definition.)

Yes. It happens all the time. The idea that popularity has anything to do with truth or correctness is a logical fallacy called "Ad Populum".
