I am getting married in July and am curious as to what happens to each of our assets once we are married. I own a condo that is under mine and my father's names. Does my fiance automatically become a part owner once we are married, or do I need to file paperwork? I live in Wisconsin.

I don't want a prenup. I want him to be a part owner. I just want to know if I need to file paperwork t add him or not.

All I remember is that after I got married, she put the refrigerator between two pieces of bread and gain 60lb over night. After that being in a common wealth state she got half of everything I owned.

I don't know Wisconsin law, but...
I doubt that your husband will have rights to the property, unless WI is a community property state.
Real estate is easy, because it has very clear "contracts." Unlike jewelry or cash, it's easy to know who owns it.
I'm going to take a guess here and say that you and you dad will continue to own the property. However, in the event of divorce, your husband COULD make a claim for it. His ability to get it would be based on your state property laws.
If you're concerned, a prenup would be a good idea. Even if WI favors you, things can happen that would change that. Better to get an agreement from your husband that he will never make a claim for the property and agrees, if state law says otherwise, to relinquish any rights that he might have.

I think Wisconsin is a community state so your partner automatically owns half of all your assets and vice versa. Make out a prenuptial agreement before marriage spelling out all the assets and what belongs to whom.

Once you are married, what is yours is his and his is yours...this is one of the rights of marriage...unless you sign a prenup...better get on it, July isn't that far away and you may have lots of details to negotiate and hammer out before the time comes...

Your husband does not become part owner of property owned by you and your dad. You could check with an attorney. He is your beneficiary and would inherit your half.
