your heads will depend on what other goodies you are going to use. decide on your compression then choose where your power range (rpm) is gonna be pick your cam and intake, then choose your heads , this is where you could spend some money, the more you spend the faster youll go ,small block power is made in the top end ,flow work is always a plus. some low cost additions to look at are . lighten that flywheel if its a manual. i could talk all day . saturday nite dirt tracker

if you want to keep the cost down,an still get HP, there is a pair of stock heads that work very good. 487x chevy heads. I race chevy motors that have to use stock heads, an for these have proven to work very will on the 350's. after market heads will cost you over a grand, usually 600 for the bare heads, than machine work, valves, springs, keepers, guides.ect. just so you have the info. i have a set of 487x heads, forsale, (200.00 for the set ready for seats an valvetrain) that are bare. since i have moved up classes, and dont use these anymore. do your research first an if this is the route you want to take let me know. at harddriving35@yahoo.com, older motors are a blast to play with, good luck in your search

In my opinion, the heads are a great way to build horse power. Why spend all kind of money building up the bottom end when you have no top end to work with. The heads will build up more compression than stock, thus making more power. I always want more power than what I will actually need. Better to have more and not need it, than need it and not have it.

The advantage to alloy heads is quicker heat dissipation and lighter weight.

Personally I wouldn't spend the extra money, but I don't want a Mustang eater either.
