John Edwards was on Face the Nation this weekend. I listened to his interview. It was odd. He was giving straight answers to most of the questions. You really don't expect that from a politician.

When asked if he would raise taxes, he said YES, and he said which ones he would raise.
When asked about his vote to authorize force in Iraq, he said "I was wrong."
When asked what would happen in Iraq if he were elected, he said, "I don't know. I know what I would LIKE to happen, but I cannot guarantee that it will."
Do you think he can get elected telling the truth like that?

George Washington was the last man to be elected President by telling the truth. It's a shame, but it's the cold hard facts of politics. I believe John Edwards is a fine man, but he refuses to play politics (which is the way it should be) and therefore it will be difficult for him to get the Democratic nomination.

I dont think you are looking at the big picture. if the war was going great and everyone here was still behind it his answer would have been see i was right to vote for the war. taxes are a non-issue when it comes to politics if you are Dem. you would vote to raise taxes, if a republican you would not. as it pertains to Iraq there are no easy answers were we right to go into Iraq everyone thought we were in the beginning. the problem is as Americans we have very few principles or should i say they change like the wind, one day it is til death do we part, next day is til the next fight then we are done. people are to lazy to decide for themselves right from wrong so they go with what they hear instead of forming their own opinions. can he get elected no!!!!

I agree with smartestm... because when some candidate starts telling the reporters what he believes, he will lose half of his votes. Now if he starts playing in the middle like Kerry did for a while, but not as obvious, then yeah he will techniqually win the election by lying.

It would be refreshing to have a politician tell the truth, but I think if they started telling the truth the whole system might collapse around them. This system has been nothing but lies for so many years and it seems pretty much all the legislation is based on lies, so injecting the truth into so much lieing would probably be a destructive force unlike any we have seen in this country's political history. Thanks and have a nice day.

OUCH!!!! Oh!!! OUCH!!!! Stop!!! That hurts!!!! I MUST STOP LAUGHING!!!! Telling the truth?? What, is he throwing in the towel already? Oh, the last time I heard so much truth being used for such a detrimental purpose, Dick Cheney was being quoted saying the American people don't care about budget deficits as he defended his administration's catostrophic, record breaking Spend and Don't Tax philosophy.
