That wouldn't completly solve the problem. Sexual predators are more likely, well you can count on it, to be reoffenders. Sexual predators should never be let out of prison. Certain acts, l ike those against children, should require death. These people cannot be treated. There are other ways to rape a person. It doesn't require a penis. It would just another waste of tax payers money to performe that kind or surgery. It wouldn't help.

No, castration won't work because rape is not a crime about sex. It's about domination, power and control. Once in awhile you do get a rapist who just happened to came across a victim who seized the opportunity and may never commit rape again but that's extremely rare. Sadly, the majority of rapists are trying to get "even" with society by humiliating and sometimes excalating to murder their chosen victims. If you take someone like this that's so pissed off that he acts out and rapes someone then you cut off his balls...you'll end up with someone even more pissed off. They may not be able to physically commit the act, but they can still use an object to commit the act. And most rapist can convince the parole board that they can control themselves, which they may have--in the controlled environment of a prison where no women were available. The best way to treat a rapist is to keep them away from potential victims because by the time they get caught, they've done it, and they've done it, and they've done it again more times than they've ever been caught, and they can't control their impulses to dominate and humiliate their victims. Rapists and other types of criminals do what they do because they know it's wrong, but it feels good and they enjoy hurting others. You might think this is sick but it doesn't make them crazy and what's sick for us is normal for them. It's their error in thinking that's the problem and there is no way to rehabilitate criminals like this because they can't change their thought patterns. Rapists also can't be "cured" through prescription drugs, attending therapy or any other conventional means other than keeping them locked away to protect any of their potential victims. I've been careful to say victims here because this may be a man a woman or a child depending on the rapist. I am 50 years old, my name is Shauna, I'm divorced and I was raised Episcopal although I haven't attended church in many years. I hope this helps!

How do all of you propose female rapists be punished? They can't be castrated. Would hysterectomy suffice? Currently they often receive up to 9 months in jail with some as little as probation. Hmmm. Seems to be another double standard at work here.
By enacting cruel and unusual punishment for crimes it is guaranteed to be overruled by the SCOTUS (Supreme Court).
By advocating such a system, there won't be anyone left unscathed for it would eventually lead to stoning for adultery, or at least mandate the convicted wear a large red "A" on clothing in public, Do you also propose blinding those convicted of possession of pornography? How about cutting the tongues out of those who perjure themselves. What about women who accuse the wrong man of paternity, what is to be done with them?
The whole idea is barbaric, to say the least.

YES....only if they are repeat offenders who can't seem to straighten up...no matter how many times they have gone to therapy or whatever. It'll also lower or eliminate their sex drive too which could possibly help. Well, for anything having to do w/ children then it should be immediately on first offense...that's just wrong to let them possibly continue a crime as sick as that.

Although, there are instances where an object other than the genitals has been used (ex: broom handle, etc.) or where it's a FEMALE who has done the raping.........in those cases I have noooo idea what could be done.

Hi, yes they should. They have taken something from someone that is more precious than their genitals. Guys might not believe it but its true. Women that are raped will never have that innocence back, they will never be able to live the way they used to, they will have night mares for the rest of their lives, not everyday but they will have them for ever. They won't be able to walk alone at night or even in the day time with out being scared. It ruins relationships, marriage's, it changes women's thoughts, dreams and beliefs. Those "Men" that rape women take away their lives as they know it and sometimes they literally take their lives, they murder them after they violate them. Rapists should be locked away for ever and be castrated and should have chemicals tested on them. They are the scum of the earth. My name is Erin and I am 25 and Caucasian. I'm a Methodist.

Castrate ALL violent offenders and take the additional step of emasculating rapists. You will reduce the urge to commit violent acts, and in the case of rapists, remove the ability to rape. This will also allow for the reduction of prison sentences, which will go a long way towards reducing overpopulation in prisons.

LOL! search for google i wager. appears like a reliable theory. some thing extra must be performed than the Crap our equipment does about it now. Ppl who imagine punishments must be "lighter" have not at all had a buddy raped. Come at it from someone who's acceptable buddy or buddy became raped. that is the acceptable for writing on the topic.

The problem is there are other ways to commit rape other than the obvious way. Also there are legal ways to counter castration with testosterone found in some herbal supplements.

First offense take one gonad. Second offense take second one. This way a person has the opportunity to rehabilitate themselves and still have a life with children. Also, if someone was falsely accused, they wouldn't be permantly damaged by the procedure. It does happen. Jim, 42, male, married, Christian.

Yes, but only after a second offense, I say that because some people are falsely convicted.
most sex offenders are repeat offenders
I think that kind of punishment should defiantly apply to pedophiles.
