Well did you earn the money yourself from a job, or was it from allowance that your parents give you, that you are supposed to earn for doing chores and such. You have to learn that you can't get stuff and not do anything for those objects. You want the ipod, clean your room, seems pretty simple to me.

It may not be fair but it is one way to make you clean your room. They are looking to take away something that is important. If it's not important, what good would taking it away do? The fact that you paid for it yourself really has nothing to do with their reasoning. Just keep your room clean and it's a non-problem. But tell them that it is unfair, nonetheless, just so they can think about it. If there is something else that is important to you that they paid for, maybe they would choose that other thing instead of the iPod, in the spirit of fairness.

well, if you were my kid, and you didnt keep your room clean, I would either:
1. take everything out of your room except your bed-that would be on the floor
2. take your door off your room
this is what I usually do when my kids dont clean up -they are only 5 and 6. I dont really make them do my chores, but it is the only way I know to make them responsible for their own things, and hopefully for others later.
So think about it, would you want to be my kid, or will you learn to clean your room so you can keep your ipod? I don't think that is a hard choice there.

First they are your parents and whatever they do it will be for your well being. I think the other way for your parents to make you clean your room is to tell that they will buy you a pair of speakers to go with your ipod. anyways, if you really earned the ipod yourself try to keep it with yourself by cleaning your room. there is nothing wrong in doing it. It is your room and believe me you will really feel good once you clean it yourself. I have experienced this and it turned out to be true that thereafter there was not a chance that my parents complained about my room's cleanliness

No, that is not fair. They should take it away from you until you learn to do your chores without being hounded about them. Or they should pay you for it if they want to keep it.
I think you should quit whining and do your chores. If you just do them instead of wasting time, they will be over and done, and you will feel more grown-up.
I got almost straight A's in school, but I hated doing homework. One day my cousin told me that if I'd just do it and get it over with, since I had to do it anyway, it would be done and I'd have time for TV, reading, and whatever else I wanted to do. That made sense. I was never late turning in homework again.
So be grown-up. Do your chores right away, and then you won't have to think about them. It's a great stress-reliever to know that you've already done what you're expected to do.
Try it. I bet you'll be glad you did!
FlyLady says it takes 21 days to develop a habit. If you do it for three weeks, it will come naturally to you.

Ummmmm.. aren't they paying for your room???
My logic is.. when you start making the mortgage payments.. then you have a say in how to maintain the property. Until that time... clean up your room.
In the time it takes you to .. type this questions, read through the answers.. you couldhave had your room clean, and apologized to your parents.
If you want to be treated like a young adult, begin by acting like one.
Sorry.. you asked.

It is fair. Because they want you to be clean. It is the best for you and they know because they've been around the block, so to say. Even though you paid for it, they PAY all the rent, water, elec, car ins, car note, all those bills that you cant afford to pay by yourself right now. So clean your room, its better than paying rent, believe me!!!!!

It doesn't matter whether it is fair or not. They are your parents and you should obey them. It really doesn't take a lot of effort to keep your room clean. Just put things back in the same place you got them from. If it's dirty, put it in the clothes hamper. If you put your dirty clothes in the floor anyway, it doesn't take any extra effort to put it in a hamper or clothes basket....
