I think "Norbit" really hurt Eddie Murphy. It is hard to give a serious acting award to a guy who puts out garbage like that, and "Norbit" isn't the first stinker he has starred in. Sorry Eddie. I liked the Dreamgirls role, but Alan Arkin was unforgettable.

I didn't think Eddie was as good as some news hype makes him out to be. He was like a skinny, silly Jack-in-the box bouncing up and down trying to capture attention against the limelights/highlights of the super-duper performance of Jennifer Hudson, the glorious elegance of Beyonce. and the beautiful cinematic settings of the film.
Actually I really enjoyed and was captivated by Djimon Hounsou's solid performance in "Blood Diamond". Alan arkin only had a small role and probably won because he's an aging star, and voters probably see it as his last chance to grab an Oscar statuette. He has been in so many films but never had, in the past, even grabbed an Oscar nomination - even though he had been honored previously by Golden Globes.

Sounds like you've got a major league problem too. Eddie Murphy was terrific in Dream Girls. I love Alan Arkin and Mark Walburgh as well. I don't know who should have won if but I know that I wouldn't base my vote on anything except their performance in the movie!

Yeah, I don't think he was much of a front runner. Alan Arkin gave such a smart, touching performance in Little Miss Sunshine. Besides, they were already giving Dreamgirls due appreciation with Jennifer Hudson's win. It's not often that they award two actors from the same movie. My question was, why wasn't Steve Carrell nominated too? He was bloody brilliant.

The Academy is very unforgiving and can't stand the thought of giving such a "prestigous" award to someone who's produced the caliber of movies he's acted in before------and now with Norbit.

RIGHT?! I mean, what more does a guy have to do: sing, dance, act in a serious role (not his normal "funny" roles).
Anyone who can do any or all of those combinations in the same movie deserves to win.
Arkin was good and I liked the movie - but Murphy was better.
I felt really disappointed for him - how many more roles can he get like that?

everyone keeps talking like Eddie Murphy was the front runner, but I really don't see it that way. I thought Alan Arkin was the front runner the whole way going into this, although I will admit I was cheering for Mark Wahlberg.
