If I have a heatshield for a catalytic converter that's 10 years old & is worn out; is it ok to have it professionally painted? In my instruction manual it says to never undercoat the heatshield. Can I have it painted by a professional?

It will need a very high temp paint,so your color choices will be very limited.I think you should just go ahead and buy a new one.

I don't think you could keep paint on it, the heat would be too great unless you tried high temp paint. You could always take the heatshield out and get some stainless sheetmetal and fabricate a new one for it.

No pro will paint it. It gets very hot, like 800-900 degrees. If you don't have a heat shield, it will melt the carpet (speaking from experience).

The manual says not to do it because paint tends to burst into flame at those temps.
