this might sound silly, but... Astrology for dummies.
And no, I'm not taking the piss; it actually is a good book! I bought it just out of curiousity whether they would only touch on the subjects of star signs or delve deeper into the subject of astrology. I was happy to find they actually delved deeper - since I found out, I'd been giving those books as presents to anyone who was curious about astrology but didn't have the foggiest on where to start.

Any astrology book by Linda Goodman is very good. "Sun Signs" gives a very good overview.
