Were you a masochist when you got married?

In many cases, leaving your spouse is a hateful, abusive act.

If you are having an affair, and leave to follow your affair partner, you have already acted in a hateful, or at the very least, an unloving manner.

So, if one acts selfish, it's logical that this will manifest itself in other ways. Many times, the party left is deeply hurt by the actions.

Marriage is a covenant, between two people and God. The breaking of this covenant is an unloving act, and often hurts the betrayed party in the covenant.

One has to let them go because you cannot hold someone you love against their will. But to leave and to expect that your spouse will not be hurt is often nothing but selfish fantasy.

A masochist is someone who enjoys BEING hurt, not someone who dishes out the hurt.

People lash out at each other out of anger and emotional pain after getting divorced out of a desire to see the other person hurt as much as they are hurting. It's vengeance. It's immature but it happens. If you left your spouse and he is now trying to hurt you in other ways, then he just wants to see you suffer because he is suffering emotionally or economically or in some way.

Masochist, well maybe.

The trust is gone and so now when misunderstandings arise it's a fight to the death. Yes it is childish ans dumb. you should both move on with your lives but one or both want payback and most of the time it is the one that created the problem in the first place. They were selfish and left why would they stop being selfish and move on.

Revenge for hurt feelings. A masochist loves to receive the pain, maybe you mean sadist? Someone who loves to give pain?

You feel a sense of hate when you leave your spouse and this is nothing weird. Maybe, you should try to stay away from your spouse for a little and then go back and apologize. She (or he) will appreciate this and accept this, and this will make you less hateful.

It's not necessary to do things to hurt them as well. I never did. It depends on the maturity level of the person.
