We are in the process of moving. I have kept my apartment squeeky clean for the past 3 years. Now, as I am packing things up, I am finding mouse drippings in odd places. Am I required to clean them up or do I just leave them? The landlord knows we have had mice in the past. This is even with 2 cats in the house. What are my legal responsibilities here as a soon to be former tenant?

This is directly to Amazedmaize: mice come in from the outside. The walls in my bedroom are CARDBOARD. How DARE you to judge me. You dont even know me! Mice do NOT come from dirt always. They come inside to get out of the cold and they are looking for food. I just dont like them in MY home. My bills ARE paid! My home is ALWAYS clean. You are extremely rude for even saying something like that to a person you dont even know! Remember, judge not less you be judged yourself. That comes from the bible. Something you should try reading.

In Texas it is to leave it the way you found it- to put it simply. You may be responsible if the landlord has to pick up after you, and they can charge you for damages.

The best thing to do is schedule a time for your landlord to do a final walkthrough when you move out, then make him/her sign off that there will be no charges, or agree on what you will pay for damage if any is there that was caused by you This should eliminate a surprise bill later.

The landlord is aware that there have been mice in your apartment. Make sure that he/she is aware that the mouse problem has come back, and you found out while cleaning up your unit. You may want to discuss it with him/her before you move-out whether or not the deposit is on the line due to droppings being left in the unit.

Good luck to you!

Obviously, you aren't as clean as you wish others to believe. It appears to us that you are trying to get excuses on the Yahoo answers for when others see how dirty you really are. My suggestion is to hire an exterminator and clean better. And an answer to your question. Apparently, your squeaky clean was actually squeaky RATS. Gross! Yes, you need to clean them don't be a filthy pig! Just like someone who has rats in their house, trying to get out of paying for something. Now,we know you are both a drity person and a person who doesn't pay their bills. What does this say for you?

Clean it up, you do not want to lose your security deposit over something small like this.
