Every time I go to a fancier restaurant, I get this waiter, (or server for you P.C. folks) who just won't shut up. They ramble on and on about how the food is served, when the seafood was flown in, the sauce that is on top of the scallops, the apricot salsa garnishing the blah blah blah. Then they stop over and interrupt conversations asking if everything is OK. This has to be an epidemic because this happens to me all the time.

I just hate when the keep coming over and asking if everything is "ok" when me and my friend or friends are in a conversation.

sucks but they are trained to do it. I waitressed for a long time at a four star restaurant. We get mystery shopped which is when the big wigs come in and test our service skills. we are to offer appetizers and salads, explain what is in everything, ask you how your meal is a certain number of times, fill your drinks at a certain point, offer dessert and go through the specials, even clear a certain way. If you don't pass you get cut hours, if you do there is usually soe sort of incentive. those restaurants are fancy for a reason, they train servers hardcore so it's not their faults blame the establishment.

I agree. I was one of those servers!!! I was fired from a very exclusive restaurant because I was too friendly and the advances that I would get I would turn down...LOL not to mention the boss had the hots for me and I was just a teen trying to make a few extra bucks....but never thought of dating the boss....The tips were amazing and I thought....the friendlier you were the higher the tip....but that isnt always the case.....LOL

I HATE that! And not just at fancier restaurants...i've even gone to an Applebee's and they have done that! I do like good service, but i don't want their life story. I am just there to eat a good meal!

Shawn, i travel often and dine out always, if the waiter is a neurotic talker, simply tell him the less he talks the better the tip ! it works for me, i don't like them bothering me

that sounds like a good server. id rather have that one then the one that ignores you. if you want them to leave you alone then be short. and complain. they will think your a bad tipper. then they will focus on a more promising customer. :)

He's just doing his job. Keep in mind they make absolute crap and depend mostly on their tips. It would make sense that he would be attentive to his customers.
Would you rather a wait staff that ignores you?
