I'm 21 years old, carrying very small and low (I'm still able to wear regular jeans if I want to, just a size up from my normal size), so I don't look or really even feel very pregnant. My weight gain has been good and steady and the doctors think the baby's about 6.5 lbs. or a bit more. This is our first baby, and my husband and I just bought a new house and are in the middle of some remodeling (doing the work ourselves) so... we could really use all the extra time we can get!

I'm working full time, but sit at a computer for most of my job.

My doctor said today that she thinks I will go into labor within the next two weeks (!), and I've started freaking out because of all we have left to do (buy a new car, get a carseat, clean the construction material out of the baby's room, get a crib and changing table, etc.).

I haven't packed a bag yet, but I'm thinking I probably should do that soon, just in case.

BUT--do you think I'm that close?

Ugh--yes, I'm trying to type at work and do a million other things at the same time. I *did* mean to say that I'm 36 weeks--36 and two days, actually. Sorry! And thanks for the answers--crossing my fingers I'm lucky and get another two weeks (at least!)

Just like everybody else has said I hope and pray that you mean 36 weeks not 26 weeks because that is WAY to early to be having a baby.
I would say get done what you can with everything you need to do. And I would pack a bag as soon as possible.
It could be 2 weeks before you go into labor. Everybody is different.
I had a friend that was dialted to 4 for about 3 weeks then finally the baby decided she was ready. So it just depends on your body.

Congrats and good luck

There is no way to tell (unless you are induced) when you will go into labor. With baby #3, I was 4-5cm from 37w until she came at 41w. Relax. You may have 2 weeks, 2 days or up to 6 weeks left! First time moms average 41w and a couple of days if left alone (like, how often does that happen anymore??). Don't worry about the crib and the baby's room. Your little one won't care where s/he sleeps those first few weeks. One of mine slept in a laundry basket by my bed for a couple of weeks. My youngest has never slept in a crib and we change her on the floor or the bed or where ever is convenient. Babies don't *need* all that stuff. It's more of a socitial thing. But now I'm off subject......again :)

It doesn't matter how far dilated you are. Your baby will come when s/he is ready, and rarely when you are ;) Good luck!!

Your 26 weeks pregnant? Thats really early and usually being that early your baby only weighs about 1 to 2 pounds my ex's neice was born on the 27th week and only weighed about 1 1/2 pounds when she was born. Thats a little weird but to answer your question when I was dilated to a 3 I gave birth to my daughter that night. So yeah that is pretty close and its a good guess. And dont worry about the things that you have and the things that you dont have its not like the hosiptal is in the middle of no where and things are 100 miles away so if you forget to pack something dont worry about it. You should get a car seat as soon as possible. And everything else will come eventually.

Do you mean 36 weeks instead of 26? At 26, your doc would be doing everything possible to keep you from going into labor and you would be on total bedrest (and a 26-28 gestational age baby would probably spend weeks if not months in a NICU). I hope you're actually at 36 weeks. Anyhow, you better get prepared, sounds like you're going to have a baby soon.

So you mean that your 26 weeks along and your baby is 6.5 lbs already?..if so then wow!!! when i went into labor at 26 weeks he was only 2 lbs 5 oz(and that was big for that age)!..but anyways you are a bit dilated so if i were you i would just keep track on how you feel! pack your bag just in case! bcause you never know, if the doc says that you might go into labor in the next two weeks then just maybe thatll happen! it all depends on your body~...but if you feel dull pains or pressure within that time, then make sure you go in asap!..you will deff. know when you go into labor! goodluck to you~

Ps
hopefully you mean 36 weeks :)

Your only 26 weeks and have a 6.5 pound baby, and about to go into labour? Do you mean you're 36 weeks?
You absolutely need a car seat and a crib!!! The baby's room can wait.

I hope and pray you meant 36 weeks along and not 26. Anyhow. With you being that dilated then yes it should be within the next two weeks. Hurry and get stuff done mommy. The baby isn't going to wait too much longer. Good luck

if you are 26 weeks pregnant you are going to go in to labor very early a full term labor is 40 weeks if you are 3.5 cm then you should have at least started labor i would think because when i went in to labor i was 3 cm you dilate to 10 cm i can not honestly say when you will go in to labor but i am surprised that they have not put you on bed rest if your doctor said 2 weeks then you should be close but that will mean you are only going to be 28 weeks when you deliver i would ask this question to your doctor

Are you sure that you did not mistype that and mean 36 wks? 26 wks is very early...the baby is not able to survive at 26 wks without a NICU unit to maintain its breathing for it.

I don't know if that is a typo or not, but if it is then you must have spoken with your doctor about the risks and ways to make you go farther along with hospitalization.
