I ask because I don't know how to play guitar, at least not anymore. The game looks fun, but I don't want to buy it and be discouraged by a huge learning curve.

This question is totally relevant to me today because I played Guitar Hero recently at a friend's house (I don't own video games). I was very surprised (as was everyone else) to find that knowing how to play guitar made me worse at the game. Because I am so used to strumming, pressing down the strum button at the right moment was very difficult for me and my coordination was thrown off. Being used to spreading my fingers out on the fret-board, it was tiresome to remember that I needn't try so hard because I was only really pressing one button. My friend who owned it (a recluse that has played it almost every day) is fantastic at it and though she owns a guitar, she has not actually played songs on it. My conclusion would be that you have more of a chance (If you play it enough) of becoming a proficient at it than someone who plays a real guitar often and a game less often. If you wish to purchase the game, I assume you will be able to play just fine with practice. --Sirius

no it doesn't help u learn guitar or help if u already play guitar, check out some pics of the guitars you have to use to play and you'll find out why, no strings, just diff. colored buttons.

well, kind of since you need to train your hands to do frets and stroking at the same time, but the learning curve is not huge at all... give it 20 minutes and you will get the hang of it :D
