I presume you mean with a "dial-up" connection and not via broadband (which would ALWAYS be on anyway!)...

Either right-click on the Internet Explorer icon on the desktop, and select PROPERTIES, or go to the CONTROL PANEL and double-click the Internet Options icon...

Now select the CONNECTIONS TAB at the top...

Towards the middle of this panel are your CONNECTIONS options... It is PROBABLY now set to "Always dial default"... Select either of the other options, depending on preference to avoid always dialing for you.

Hello. I think that the problem is some type of virus, trojan, or worm that's gotten onto your system and wants to get online to connect with some website to do bad things. I had that with the blaster worm. I'd recommend getting Microsoft's Malicious Tool Remover, then run it to see if it's the cause. I think that has to be it. I'd also recommend getting AVG's antivirus as well as Spyware Terminator... both free and work well. I think this should get you working better.

Uncheck the 'connect automatically' box on your dial up connection.
