That is a very broad subject. Some are as big as your arm and handle hundreds of watts, some are the size of rice, some are platinum, some wire-wound, some extremely precise. I might start with a catalog (Jameco, Newark, Digi-Key) on line and just browse around to see what it all looks like. Note the names of the manufacturers and then go directly on the web to see the particulars. While you are at it, you can look at capacitors and inductors. Have a good explore!
