Okay Okay, final Main Character Name Question (hopefully)?

Should i name her:

Sapphira (Saph for short...but then remember it's also very similar to the name of Eragon's dragon which is kinda weird even though i would have it pronounced/spelled differently)

or Seraphina=pronounced Sear-uh-fin-uh (Saph for short also) (NOT Sarah-FEEN-uh or anything that ends in feena cuz that's kidna annoying)

Sapphira is Greek and is from "The Old testament" or something when she gets killed for lying...not very appealing. I can also spell it Sappheire which....i have no idea how to pronounce.

Seraphina is a feminine form of the late latin name, "Seraphinus" which is derived from the biblical word "Seraphim" which is hebrew in origin and means "Fiery Ones" which i think is pretty cool.

So take your pick:

Seraphina pronounced Sear-uh-fin-uh meaning fiery one

or Sapphira/Sappheire which is from the bible or something where someone was killed by god for lying

Either way her name will be Saph but just wondering what you would think a better full first name

Honestly, Sapphira kind of sounds like a STD if someone pronounces it Saff-ear-a (Which many would) so to avoid something like that, Seraphina would be best. It has become popular to have Biblical or classically derived roots in a character's name (i.e. JKR, Dan Brown) and you'd be surprised how many people look up names just to see if the author has a hidden meaning in them so you might want to have "Fiery one" rather than "Lying one" XD. One last thing; it will be hard to avoid having people pronounce Seraphina as it should be (and not as you like it with a SEE-raphina) unless you change the spelling to Searaphina. However, it will be harder to make any Biblical connection spelling it that way. Anyways, good luck to you and I hope this helps. --Sirius

Even if you tell readers how a name is to be pronounced, they are going to read it however they wish. And yes, your character name is far too close to an already popular character name.

Since you are planning on nicknaming your character, what not make it simple and just use Saph?
