Hey, I'm 13 and I'm writing a book. The set-up is a trio of kids on career day. Then a mysterious woman gathers them close and says they have to come and learn from her; they have to, or the world will be destroyed. Then she takes them to another planet and they save the world. I won't get into details. But there is one niggling detail that comes up more than once in my story and I really need to know...
What non-core subjects are there and what subject has a career day or what is career day exactly? You see I'm homeschooled, so I wouldn't really know. Please help. And any other details about school (jr. High) you could offer would help alot. You know, like about cliques, how people act, what teachers are like, how classes are set up, you know the, the whole nine yards. Thanks!

What subject is career day in? Or is it in a subject? And do you go to class at all that day? I don't mean the type of career day where ppl stand up a talk about their jobs I mean liek there are tables put up and you read about each job then figure out who you want to learn from that day

Career Day is different wherever you go. In college, Career Day means going to a large ballroom filled with tables and displays from many organizations and academic departments trying to "sell" their membership or program of study as important to a certain career path.

In secondary school, Career Day can be similar, or it could mean that parents of students visit to explain their jobs, what education they needed to get their jobs, and what they do at their jobs. Sometimes, people with general job types (scientist, fireman, mail carrier, and so on) are chosen to discuss those same things.

You question about "how high school works" is rather large in scope and different answers will come from people depending on the high school and their individual experiences. It's one of those things that you can't know very well without direct experience.

A career day is when a child or many children attending school schedule a day to shadow someone while they're on the job. Get a feel for what their every day life is like and what a normal days job would include. My high school would not let us shadow our parents, they wanted us to try and shadow someone who was in the field we were interested in.
