When I was teaching drums, about 15% of my students were girls. They were all a joy to teach for one reason....they felt they had to work harder to prove girls could play as well or better than guys. That was then....

....this is now. Drumming has stopped being a "boy's club" a LONG time ago. When the first all girl band (not singing group....BAND) named Fanny came out...to Vixen and Precious Metal to Hole(ok....it's ALMOST all girls) Women have proved they can pound out the rock as hard as the guys.

I don't know where you are, but if you were in my area, I'd teach you myself. But you can find lessons anywhere in music stores.

But here's what I want you to do. Get lessons, practice your butt off, then show the "guys" that you can play!

Then flip them the bird....LOL

It's fantastic you want to learn the drums! I've been playing for about 15 years and although sometimes people are a bit shocked a girl plays drums, after a while, it really doesn't matter.

If you love to play, don't give up. Put your heart and soul into it, that's what makes you a musician, that's what makes you a drummer.

I think the best idea is to look for a teacher, maybe try the local newspaper, or local music/drum shops. When you're starting out, having someone physically show you what to do and demonstrate things is invaluable.

Good luck and rock on!

I think it's so awsome that you play the drums. I'm a girl and I've always wanted to know how! Anyway, don't give up!!! You could probably find lessons at music stores. I hope I helped!!

One of my favorite drummers happens to be female, Mercedes Lander from the band Kittie. Don't let anyone tell you what you should be doing especially based on your gender. If you are not currently taking lessons talk to your parents about taking lessons. If nothing else just keep practicing and playing as much as possible. You'll be amazed what you can teach yourself through trial and error. Good luck!

Dont listen to the BS that other people feed you, thrive off of your talent and have fun with it! the great singer Selena had a sister who also played the drums in their band and she was an amazing drummer! follow your heart and have fun, use your talent and use it well :)

I love girl bands, and for me the sexiest thing is a girl drummer, like in the GoGo's, The Corrs, the Bangles, Vixen, and there are others, but don't listen to anyone, listen to your heart and you will be fine. Many guys are scared of the competition, so good luck and I wish you well and also God Bless.....

Girls still have to break free from that ol' "girls can't..." BS.

It's 2007. There PLENTY of great female rock musicians out now.

I think it's cool when girls play ANY instrument.
