it depends on the router, check the config pages. Netgear routers have this option just in case you are with an isp that uses mac addresses as some form of security.

Pdf15, no you are wrong, in windows it can be done with a utility called smac (as someone already mentioned), it is free and easy to use, this will change it for your computers network cards, on linux it can be done with the ifup command, it is written to the network cards rom, but handed out to the network via software. It is the same with routers, they all run some kind of software, whether it is an ios, or an embedded linux variant, or custom os.

The mac address is embedded in every network device. Every network device has a unique mac address therefore it cannot be changed.

Google up a program called 'SMAC.' It's not free, but there are cracks for it, if you look hard enough.
