To dream about the death of a loved one, suggests that you are lacking a certain aspect or quality that the loved one embodies. Ask yourself what makes this person special or what do you like about him. It is that very quality that you are lacking in your own relationship or circumstances. Alternatively, it indicates that whatever that person represents has no part in your own life.
To dream of your own death, indicates a transitional phase in your life. You are becoming more enlightened or spiritual. Alternatively, you are trying desperately to escape the demands of your daily life.

Though I don't believe in dreams and my dreams become completely opposite, eastern belief in death of someone in your dream meaning the age of that person who died in dream will be increased in real life.
I also found this from MSN dream dictionary (link below) that death in your dream means:
1. An imminent transition, perhaps a move, or change of job or lover.
2. An impending death in the world of the dreamer—usually a relative, friend, or admired public figure. The dreamer's death, however, is never shown.
3. The need for change in some department of the dreamer's life. As to what: Watch for other symbols in the dream.
Astrological parallel: Scorpio.
Tarot parallel: Death.

Hi,
I interpret dreams and this is a very cool one!
First let me tell you a few "rules" with dream interpretation-every dream is always about the dreamer and every person, place, or thing in the dream is an aspect of yourself.
When we are awake, all during our day, the conscious mind is busy taking in information, having experiences, using the senses and living life! It is the conscious minds duty to add understandings to the subconscious mind.
When the conscious mind goes to sleep it is the duty of our subconscious mind to give us feedback on our experiences, sometimes showing us how we could have done something different or events of the future. It also stores our understandings & gives us access to them.
When we have reoccurring dreams it is usually because there is something the subconscious mind is trying to get across for us to pay attention to and we aren't paying attention.
When ever there are other people in a dream this would represent an aspect of yourself. If you are dreaming of a woman this would be an aspect of your conscious mind. If you are dreaming of a man this is an aspect of your subconscious mind. (The opposite is the case for a guy)
To know what aspect your subconscious mind is telling you about you need to pick one or two words to define what quality that person represents to you.
For example, I would define my friend Julia as very compassionate & loving. When I dream about her my subconscious mind is telling me about that quality in MYSELF. How Julia interacts in the dream tells me what & how I am doing with that quality. When I dream about my friend George I think of him as very mean and critical. When I dream of George this is usually telling me about how I might have been critical or mean in an experience.
Death in a dream is talking about a change wiithin yourself that is occurring. To figure out what aspect of yourself is making a change think about who is dying and what they represent to you as I mentioned above. The more details you have will give you more insight about the change you are making.
If the person is a stranger it means you are making a change with a part of yourself that is unfamiliar to you. Like when you resolve to make a change with your diet “I am going to lose weight” but you are not familiar with all that it will mean in terms of changing what you do (eating healthier, exercising, drinking more water)
How the death occcurs also plays a part. If it is a murder, for example, that is a forced change. Your subconcious mind would be telling you that you are changing but it might be against your will. I think the grieving process in the dream might be you mourning for a part of yourself that has changed.
I think tho that this dream is cool as you are changing a part of yourself!
If you have any questions about this you may email me
Hope this gave you some insight!

Life change.
It can also mean death but mostly likely not.
Your life is about to change drastically. Life as you know it will be no more and things will be very different, whether a job change, pregnancy, divorce, marriage. It means a big change and you grieving probably suggests that the change will not be a welcome one until you can forget about the way things once were.

In classic symbolism, dreams about death actually represent rebirth. These dreams may represent something in your life that's going to change...the grieving may represent your resistance to these changes.
