Normally the results are not sent out to the patient, they would most likely not understand what was said by the radiologist who read them. During your next doctor's appointment, the doctor will tell you the results of the scan. That is how it is usually done anyway. If there is something really wrong, the doctor's office will probably call you & have you come in sooner than your scheduled appointment, otherwise they will just wait.

My husband works in MRI, if there's an available radiologist right away to read the study it takes 24-48 hours. The study has to be read first after MRI (scan) and after the study dictated, it will be proof read and then the report will be sent to the ordering physician. This is not counting the weekend days and holidays.

It depends. Mine was ready the next business day (had the scan on Friday, got the results on Monday). The process is usually quicker if they find something alarming/dangerous/et cetera on your MRI.

They don't call you or write to you with the results - you have to call them in about a week's time and make another appointment. I found this out the hard way by waiting for 3 months and hearing nothing. I tried my GP but he had heard nothing. Nice of them to let me know I had to call the hospital direct isn't it! That's London NHS for you.

I had one 18 months ago at Coventry's Walsgrave Hospital. My Doctor still hasn't got the results! So much for the NHS.

As soon as your doctor sees them....I got my results back the same day.....My MRI and my Doc were in the same office.

It usually depends on when your doctor wants them. If you're not a pro athlete, it usually takes a week. Then you will usually meet with your doctor to go over the results.

About 5 minutes, if that. Plus bureaucracy: about 5 weeks.

Depends on how fast they're read. Mine were available the next day.
